Pagadian City (September 14,
2019)– With its purpose to boost art tourism, the provincial
government of Zamboanga del Sur in coordination with the National Commission
for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) organized the first ever painting competition
in line with the 67th Founding Anniversary of the province from
September 13 to 14 at the Tausug Hall, Provincial Government Complex, Pagadian
City.
The event spearheaded by the Provincial Press Bureau was participated by gifted
visual artists from Pagadian City and 23 municipalities all over Zamboanga del
Sur who took the challenge to paint their famous local tourist destination
applying the “realism” genre.
After two days of careful picking
of colors, stroking and polishing their masterpieces, the participants
presented their finished works at the provincial art gallery where they briefly
explained how they came up with such concept and piece.
Three judges were tasked to
critic their work: Randel Villanueva, Rainer Duhaylungsod, Dr. Armin Virata and
Mr. Japhet Monsion, the chairman of the board of judges.
The three art critics picked
the top 10 art works and from them three (3) masterpieces were declared 2nd
place, 1st place and the champion.
Molave artist Gieward Hulagno received
the 3rd place with a cash prize of P9,000 while Dominic Escobar
from Tukuran garnerned the second prize of P13,000.
The pride of Aurora, Jhon Paul
Alivio, snatched the first place and brought home the prize of P20,000.
Board Member Francisvic Villamero, guest honor of the event, congratulated the local painters for showcasing their artistry and
encouraged them to continue to hone their craft and keep their passion for painting.
