The event was attended by Dir. Reynaldo Wong of the Commission on Population Region 9, DepEd Regional Director Isabelita Borres, health professionals, volunteers and other government agencies.

According to Gov. Yu, his crucial vote was made out of his keen observation on the economic condition of families in his district.

The governor cited an example on the predicament of farmers in far-flung villages who remain in the cycle of poverty due to poor family planning.

“There must be an intervention from the government to improve the living of those families, that is why I voted yes for the RH Law,” Yu said.

He explained that the root of increased family size is due to lack of proper education and information.

“We need to help them, inform them and make them feel that there is a better tomorrow,” he said.

The top provincial official told volunteers and POPCOM officials that the provincial government will give its all-out support to health promotion and communication campaigns related to family planning and population control.

In the last part of his message, Gov. Yu encouraged the commission to intensify the information drive on the advantages of the reproductive health law to the villages and look forward to the good results of their hard work through their collaborative efforts.

Gov. Yu’s challenge to law enforcers: I want a drug-free province

Pagadian City (August 30, 2019) – Zamboanga del Sur Governor Victor J. Yu recently voiced out his challenge to law enforcers in the province during a media conference on Tuesday centered on the celebration of the upcoming National Crime Prevention Week.

Speaking before heads of office of Napolcom, DILG and PNP, Yu expressed his support to the law enforcement agencies in fighting criminality, terrorism and illegal drugs.

“I want a drug-free province. Give me all your programs and the provincial government will fully support you,” Yu said.

The governor said that his administration has been firm in supporting the efforts of both military and police by providing them communication equipment, transportation, fuel support, and even infrastructure.

He stressed that peace and order is not just a concern of the few but a responsibility of every person in the community.

“The government cannot do it alone. We need the cooperation and participation of the people in the province of Zamboanga del Sur especially in fighting criminality,” the governor said.

On the problems confronting the province, Gov. Yu detailed that good governance is the key to solve the likes of insurgency and poverty. He said that he has laid out a one-time, big-time outreach where all national agencies can collaborate to deliver basic services to villages affected by insurgency. He also talked about conducting visitations to villages with high poverty incidence to uplift the standard of livelihood of the people in these areas.

The top provincial leader also shared his plan on strengthening the programs intended for the rebel returnees.
